Paros

Discover the beauty, history and modernity of the Greek island of Paros

Paros is a Greek island belonging to the Cyclades region. Its major towns include Naoussa, a hub for nightlife; Parikia, where the main port sits; and Lefkes, a small inland town. The town showcases both rich architecture and culture. It’s flooded with tourists in the summers, but there are many ways to find quiet and beautiful places between the crowds.

Parikia is where Paros’ main port is located. It’s home to many restaurants as well as the Monastery of Panagia Ekatontapiliani, built in the 4th century AD, which serves as a rich example of the island's Greek Orthodox roots.

Naousa, located on the Northern side of Paros, is a large town known for its shops and nightlife. Historically, it was an important fortress for the island. The town also served as a Russian naval base during the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774 and the Orlov Revolt.

Lefkes stands at 350m above the sea, which kept it secluded from Pirates in the past. Its mountain location keeps it from being over-touristed today. Lefkes sits next to the old marble Byzantine Road, which dates back over 1,000 years and can still be hiked today. The town of Lefkes is small and has a main road winding down through the village until it eventually leads to a large square where the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church sits. This large church is open to the public and showcases the Byzantine history of the Island.

Day 1

Get a tour at Petra Farm, where you’ll get the chance to learn about how it is possible to sustainably farm in the arid climate of Paros. After the tour, you’ll enjoy Greek wines and olives alongside a few dishes.

If you’re super ambitious, check out one of tomorrow’s options and otherwise, do some exploring in your free time!

In the evening, head to Paros’ port for Dinner as you watch the sunset. I recommend Mira Restaurant for some delicious Greek food. Mythos Plaza Restaurant is another place you can check out. You’ll be able to walk the street afterward and keep your eye out for an ice cream parlor.

Day 2

Head over to Eurodivers for some scuba diving. They offer amazing introductory courses where you can do multiple sessions if you’re up for it.
OR
Take a boat cruise with Brama Catamarans, Glaraki cruises (which is what I did!) or Any Destination Cruises around Antiparos, Paros’ sister island. This tour will take you along steep rock caves as you try fresh fish and get to jump into the crystal blue waters.

In the evening, head over to Nauosa and get lost in the busy streets surrounded by white walled buildings. You’ll get to check out the local shops and then head to the waterfront for a bite to eat.

Day 3

Head toward the island's northern shore to swim at an unnamed rocky but nearly private beach located at coordinates 37.142110, 25.288389. We found this place by chance while driving aimlessly and came back three times during our four days in Paros. Additionally, Παλιό Καρνάγιο is a nearby landmark with a waterfront which can be visited.

Additionally, try out Canalait Patisseri, a small bakery located just south of Naoasa, where we made an impromptu stop and had a delicious crème brûlée. While they draw from French influence, they source their ingredients from Greece and partner with local artisans to create natural food and flavors.

Spend the evening exploring Lefkes: this small town is located in the center of Paros. There aren’t many restaurants here, but the ones you’ll find are really cute. we ended up eating food cooked by a grandmother at her house, where she had set up a small restaurant with a different menu every night.

Additional Information

Because the islands are geared toward tourists, especially in the summer, there are an abundance of places to stay. We stayed at Pyrgaki Hotel, which does not lie within a city but offers a beautiful view of the port and focuses on sustainability and sourcing locally.
