Boston

Explore one of the USA's Oldest Cities

The area of Boston was once home to the Massachussett, but was settled by English Puritan Separatists in 1620. The city of Boston was founded in 1630 which soon led to teh founding of the Boston Latin School and Harvard Univeristy. Boston went on to be considered the birth place of the revolution and later played a large role in the civil war for it's anti-slavery activities. Today Boston serves as a hub for economic activity, education and culture.

Day 1

Explore Faneuil Hall (1742) and Quincy Market (1826): this area lies near Boston’s waterfront and is known for its local eateries, historic meeting hall, street performers and attractions. It is one of the most visited parts of Boston and worth checking out. The area around it is also really nice, on Saturdays you can find the Haymarket, a local produce market, here as well.

Explore the Sowa Market: on top of SoWa’s underground thrift, the market holds many local clothing vendors, food trucks and farmers. If you stay in the area in the evening, you can take dumping folding classes with Mei Mei Dumplings. I did this with my family and found it to be a blast.

If you're here in winter, you can stop by Snowport, a winter market that has been growing in popularity.

Day 2

Explore Newbury Street: this busy shopping street houses entertainment, a book cafe, many many shops and places to grab a bite.

Additionally, the street next to Newbury Street is Commonwealth Avenue, a wealthy neighborhood that is typically pretty quiet despite its touristed neighbor and beautiful for a nice walk.

Explore the Boston Public Library and Copley Square: The historic library, inspiring scenes found in Spotlight, Good Will Hunting, and The Box, is located in Copley Square and was built in 1848 as the first large free municipal library in the United States. The square also houses the Trinity Church and John Hancock Tower.

Explore the Boston Common and Public Garden: A park as older than this country and decked in an array of plants and trees. It’s surrounded by some of Boston’s most historic sections including the state house. The Boston Common has played a fundamental role in public assembly, free speech and protests throughout history including a rally led by MLK jr. The Boston common holds a frog pond, a popular skating destination in winter, while the public garden has its own lagoon with Swan Boats. You won’t have to look hard to find the squirrels but try to find the Mallard Duck with her ducklings.

Explore Charles Street: this is a bustling street of shops and the old Beacon Hill Books and Cafe. Charles Street is located in Boston’s Beacon Hill, a historic part of the city that used to house abolitionists, and is now known for its quaint housing and cobblestone streets.

Day 3

Boston is home to some phenomenal museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, The Science Museum, Christian Science Plaza with an immersive world map, and New England Aquarium where you can also take duck tours—a mix of bus and boat tour—through the city.

You can then walk the Esplanade, a green area lying between the Charles River and Storrow Drive. It offers a few different outdoor spaces including a nice dock and view of Cambridge, MA.
